Program 1

Two day program visiting Narman Fairy Chimneys, Oltu Rock Workshops, Haho Monastery, Enguzekkapi Castle, Tortum Lake and Waterfalls, Yedigoller, Ishan Monastery, Osk Vank Monastery and places of interest in Erzurum.

1st Day:

Travel to Erzurum. (From Erzurum to Narman is approximately 1,5 hours travel by car) Narman Fairy Chimneys (The red colored Narman Fairy Chimneys, which were developed by wind and water erosion on soil over millions of years, are an ideal area for photographers) Oltu Rock Workshops (Opportunity to photograph the Oltu Castle which is situated at the top of a hill beside the Oltu Stream. Followed by watching the processing of Oltu Rocks at the Oltu Rock Workshops.) Haho Monastery (What makes the Haho Monastery so special is that the historically important Virgin Mary icon which was in the middle of the Hahuli Triptych that is at the Tbilisi Public Art Museum now was made in this Monastery) Enguzekkapı Castle Arrival at Uzundere – Accommodation is possible in the family pensions in the town centrum. 2nd Day:

Tortum Lake (Arrival at the Tortum Lake over the Pirin Rocks Passage) Tortum Waterfall (Tortum Waterfall is the widest waterfall in Turkey, ranks as second in terms of formation in the world and it’s the 22nd largest waterfall in the world) Yedigoller (Seven Lakes) (Tortum Lake is the seventh of the turquoise colored lakes that are all different from each other) Ishan Monastery (Ishan is the Georgian Monastery located in the Ishan (new name is Dagyolu) village in Yusufeli. It is estimated that the structure, which is located in north-south directions on a flat area in the village, has been constructed in the 7th century. Today a church and a chapel in the northwest corner exists) Lunch suggestion: (You may get a taste of the local food at Yarımada in Tortum Lake in the Balikli Village) Osk Vank (Osk Vank means up and down and it’s a very important monastery of the Tao Klarjheti area. Uç Kumbetler and Ulucami (Three Cupolas and the Ulu Mosque) Erzurum Castle and the Historical Watch Tower Yakudiye Madrasah (The embroidered globe, the tree of life, two leopard figures on either side and the two headed hawk atop which are religious symbols etched inside the arcs on the entrance doors which were made during the Ilhanli era are worth noticing.) Program 2

Five day program visiting Uzundere, Osk Vank Monastery, Tortum Lake and Waterfalls, Mescit Mountain Yedigoller, Oltu Rock Mines and Workshops, Narman Fairy Chimneys, Ishan Monastery, Kanli Kilise and Barhal Church.

1st DAY:

Arrival at Erzurum (From Erzurum to Uzundere approximately 1,5 hours travel by car or you may take minibuses. For detailed info http://www.choruh.com/practical-information/transportation) Arrival at Uzundere (Azort) – Accommodation is possible in the family pensions in the town centrum. 2nd DAY:

Osk Vank Monastery which means up and down and is the most important Monastery in the Tao Klarjeti region, currently within the Camliyamac Village borders. Today a church, three chapels, a food court and the library where hand written scripts were copied and protected exist. Osk Vank was dedicated to Yahya the Baptist (Ioannis Prodromos) Departure for Morkaya following one of the most interesting roads for photographers, in Turkey. Tortum Lake (Arrival at the Tortum Lake over the Pirin Rocks Passage) Tortum Waterfall (Tortum Waterfall is the widest waterfall in Turkey, ranks as second in terms of formation in the world and it’s the 22nd largest waterfall in the world) Return to Uzundere.

3rd DAY:

Arrival at the Mescit Mountain Yedigoller. This area is very suitable for long walks. You may see the nomads from Siverek region in Sanliurfa and ask to be a guest for lunch. Following lunch a visit to the region made up of 11 lakes in the Mescit Mountains. Dinner and accommodation in Uzundere.

4th DAY:

Oltu MinesFollowing a visit to the mines in the Oltu village visiting the workshops where the Oltu rock found in the nearby mines are processed. You may see how the rock is being processed and photograph it. Narman Fairy Chimneys. Narman Fairy Chimneys which are called the Red Fairies by the locals, photography opportunity in the valley and departure for Yusufeli. Dinner and accommodation in Yusufeli. 5th DAY:

Travel to Ishan Monastery which is also called Kanli Kilise (blood stained church). This monastery which is located in the Ishan village of Yusufeli is situated in a flat area in north-south directions and was constructed in 7th century. Barhal (Altiparmak) village and Barhal Church which was constructed like a monastery during the Bagrat Dynasty and was later used as a mosque. You may continue moving from the skirts of Kackar to the skirts of Karcal and arrive at Macahel.
