Peterek–Çamlıbel Yayla–Güngörmez Mountain Route
Accommodation: Yusufeli / Tekkale
Starting Point: Çamlıbel Yayla
Level of Difficulty: easy - medium
Duration: 4-6 hours
This is an ideal trekking route for those who are based in Yusufeli. This trek starts at Çamlıbel Yayla, which is 2 hours from Yusufeli. Transport can be hired in Yusufeli. Until Peterek, there is an asphalt road. Beyond that there is a good stabilised dirt road. Drive on until this road branches. Go to the right across the bridge (P01). After passing through the villages of Şapet and Camikapısı take the left turn. After a while the road enters a deeply forested area. At the next turning take a left (P07). The road climbs steeply. From this point you can look out over wonderful views of the Çoruh River, Kılıçkaya and Deve Dağ. Drive on. Take a right when the road branches (P08). After taking a left at the next turning, you arrive at Çamlibel Yayla (P12). Although the stabilised dirt road continues until the ruins of the remote summer pasture of Avazan (P13), you will be best advised to leave your vehicle at this point and begin your walk toward Avazan. At Avazan, a path is a little bit difficult to find but it is noticeable. You take the left, walking parallel to the side of the mountain. After walking for about 15-20 minutes through a magnificent forest, you will see Güngörmez Dağ. From the distance, you will see a scree-covered valley. If you keep on walking along the path, you will reach the foothills of Güngörmez Dağ at 2,340 metres (Güngörmez Dağ). There is a spring that breaks from the rocks only in the evenings, hence the name Güngörmez, “Without Daylight.”
