

The Çoruh Valley holds the status of Important Bird Area not only due to its location being on the migratory route of vultures but also hosting birds like Lammergeier (Gypaetus barbatus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus), Caucasian Black Grouse (Tetrao mlokosiewiczi) and Caspian Snowcock (Tetraogallus caspius) which reproduce in the Valley.
And it is one of the most Important Butterfly Area of Turkey due to its butterfly diversity, intensity and being home to some endangered species in Europe.
In additon, the Valley holds the status of Important Mammal Area with its populations of Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), Bezoar Goat (Capra aegagrus), Wolf (Canis lupus), Wild Cat (Felis silvestris) and Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx).
